1. Find that expert in (…any outdoor amusement business related topic that comes to mind…) when I need them.
2. Post questions or comments on your blog, in the comments section of on your status area(for everybody to see of course).
3. Locate colleagues interested in the same things as I am (no, not just romance…amusement industry things).
4. Ask for opinions on specific routes.
5. Check out and approach the lot man, management or owners at your next job position.
6. Market yourself in the fields you are good at (personal branding).
7. Keep my resume and personal information readily available for all and easy to update. (and drop that send me a bus ticket approach)
8. Check out interesting projects going on (that you may be doing also and thereby saving some time; keep myself from re-inventing the wheel).
9. Answer questions that actually “find me” because of my profile and network (and be rewarded for my participation!).
10. Create communities of people around a specific topic to focus the individual effort and passion. You want to start a group. Just ask Marcus how to do it.
11. Learn about the people around you. Yes, they are on this network, also
12. Discuss about idea’s, experiences, lessons learned, business process improvements, tools, policies, external developments.
13. Being able to put out a few thoughts now and then, tag them and let them go for all to react on, learn from. And of course read your thoughts! Hey, that sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Let it all go.
14. Be aware of what is going around at the Fair, Festival or on the midway that you are involved with and beyond.
15. Quickly learn about the (new) work and colleagues when landing in a new position.
16. Find out where people are working with my educational and work experience. What jobs are open in the industry. What’s the hottest new thing.
17. Watch yourself on Video. We are processing many videos every day.
18. Just want to keep my list of contacts (who to approach for what?).
19. Trace the person who knows that special person who knows about that particular topic.
20. Hey, I would even like to post a few photo’s of my personal or business events to share with everyone around here and maybe play a few games in the Arcade area and even find out about trade shows coming up and…….well, much much more, limited only by your imagination.

What Is Social Networking?

Social Networking – perhaps you’ve heard of it before, but are not quite sure what it means.

Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighborhood subdivision, if you will. Although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online. This is because unlike most high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other internet users, to gather and share first-hand information or experiences about any number of topics, from golfing to gardening developing friendships, or to start a professional relationship

When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. These websites are known as social sites. Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share a common interest such as hobbies, religion, politics or in this case the outdoor amusement business industry. Once you are granted access to our social networking website, submitting a valid email address you can immediately begin to socialize. This socialization may include reading the profile pages of other members and possibly even contacting them.

The friends that you can make are just one of the many benefits to social networking online. Another one of those benefits includes diversity because the internet gives individuals from all around the world access to social networking sites. This means that although you are in the United States, you could develop an online friendship with someone in Denmark. Not only will you make new friends, but you just might learn a thing or two about new cultures or new languages and learning is always a good thing.

As mentioned, social networking often involves grouping specific individuals or organizations together. While there are a number of social networking websites that focus on particular interests, there are others that do not. The websites without a main focus are often referred to as “traditional” social networking websites and usually have open memberships. This means that anyone can become a member, no matter what their hobbies, beliefs, or views are. However, once you are inside this online community, you can begin to create your own network of friends and eliminate members that do not share common interests or goals. A good example of one of the traditional networks is Facebook, which is accessible through the bar at the bottom of our main social networking page.

As I’m sure you’re aware, there are dangers associated with social networking: data theft and viruses are on the rise. The most prevalent danger though often involves online predators or individuals who claim to be someone that they are not. Although danger does exist with networking online, it also exists with networking out in the real world, too. Just like you’re advised when meeting strangers at clubs and bars, school, or work — you are also advised to proceed with caution online. By being aware of your surroundings and who you are talking to, you should be able to safely enjoy social networking online. Just use common sense and listen to your inner voice; it will tell you when something doesn’t feel right.
